Words of encouragement - Staines Concert

Posted on 01/11/2009

Stuart recently performed in Staines at the Salvation Army Hall as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Canaan Bookshop.

Sharing a stage with the wonderful author Michele Guiness and with a guest appearance by Fiona Castle, who's husband Roy, opened the first Canaan store all those years ago, it was a wonderful evening of music, laughter and thanks-giving.

Following the event, Stuart was honoured to recieve the following message from a member of the audience who took the time to write the following;

"...I wanted to thank you for sharing your talent and inspiring the entire audience on Friday night. I have been listening to your cd and finding great comfort and peace.... Thank you again for uplifting me on a night when I so deeply needed it."

Written by a lady called Sue, Stuart wanted to share how encouraging such a message was to him to have recieved from a member of the audience. Such words of encouragement are so precious and certainly never taken for granted. It is always an honour to perform, but sometimes it is all too easy to forget the 'bigger picture' of what God can and does do in the lives of all of us when we allow Him to work through us, inspite of us and with our fragility of humanity and ability.

Thank you Sue!

Great day for Andy's Angels at rhe Royal Parks Half-Marathon!

Posted on 13/10/2009

It proved to be a very special day for everyone connected with Andy's Angels and the continuing fight against bone cancer.

Personal Best times were achieved by 5 of Andy's Angels - including Stuart who was delighted with his time of 1 hour 51.04 mins!

Another 4 of the Angels ran the distance for the very first time and therefore achieved their own pb's too!!

And Andy's 'Angelic Race Wings' took their maiden flight!

Wonderful race weather coupled together with a great course that wound its way through four of London's Royal Parks meant that it truly was an inspiring run!

Andys Angels - race 10 - Royal Parks 1/2 Marathon - 11th October 2009

Posted on 11/10/2009

Stuart joins a group of 14 other 'Angels' as the 'Andy's Angels' Race series continues on Sunday 11th October when they tackle the beautiful, but tough Royal Parks 1/2 Marathon in London.

Since the 'Angels' series was started, the number of people who have shown a desire to support both Andy and, by extension, other people fighting cancer, has steadily grown and the 15 'Angels' will be joined by a further 85 runners all wearing the vest of the Bone Cancer Research Trust.

The 'Angels' have set themselves a target of £10,000 to be raised through the race series and a number of other events that are currently in development - including concerts.

Please help the 'Angels' reach their target as soon as possible by donating whatever you can. The fight against cancer is something very close to Stuart's heart having already felt the shadow of it's devastating impact on homes and families within his own immediate family. He is determined to do what he can, with what little he has, for as long as he can in order to help in the fight to find a cure.

Sponsorship is really easy and takes just a few minutes and a couple of clicks.

Go to the humbling and inspiring website/blog of Andy and follow the prompts.

THANK YOU!

Stuart, Jimmy Floyd, the Chelsea Old Boys and a Salvation Army Army album launch - all in one day!

Posted on 14/09/2009

What a day ahead is in store for Stuart on September 14th!

Not only has Stuart dusted-off his boots, got his shin-pads checked for relaiability and packed his brother Darrell's old Pilgrim school football team socks in preparation for a stint of 'Roy of the Rovers' fantasy football....!

But... the 14th also see's the launch of the latest offering from the Regent Hall Salvation Army Band with their album "Songs of Praise" featuring the voive of Stuart.

As part of a charity team that will be playing against some of Chelsea's legends when he takes part in a match at the clubs state-of-the-art training complex in Cobham he will be playing against a team of players that graced the Blue shirt over the decades he will be joined on the same team by Englands most capped cricketer in the form of former captain and wicketkeeper Alec Stewart as well as Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. A man with one of the hardest shots in the game but also one of the most popular with Chelsea fans! Stuart is incredibly honoured to be bringing his footballing skills, last seen when he played for his school a 'few' years ago, to the table....

This coupled with the launch of an album where Stuart was invited to add vocals to two of his favourite tracks on the arrangements chosen by the band of Regent Hall Salvation Army for "Songs of Praise" means that Monday 14th September will prove to be a very special day...

Due for a 2010 release including the USA, it will follow a similar path in style to that of the richly praised 'Benedizioni' and will feature the unique classical arrangements of some of today's modern worship hymns and songs that have impacted Stuart's personal faith journey alongside new, original compositions from the partnership that have already produced tracks such as the beautiful 'Bambino Mio' and 'Ma Credo Ancora' - two of the most popular iTunes downloads on 'Benedizioni'.

Watch this space.....!!

FA CUP FINAL SONG - MEDIA FRENZY!

Posted on 30/05/2009

It's been an incredible week for Stuart after his lighted-hearted self-penned lyrics looking at the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Everton was picked up by numerous radio and television stations.

Set to the wonderful music that is Puccini's most famous aria 'Nessun Dorma' Stuart has paid homage to both of the teams in Blue who will battle for the last piece of silverware at the end of what has been an incredible season.

"Wemberly!

Wemberly!

It's FA Cup Final day

We're gonna take a little stroll down Wembley Way

For an all Blue affair.

There's Mosey and his Toffee-Blues

Saha, Pienaar, Cahill and Neville too

But here comes Hiddink with his Blue-Bridge-Blues

JT, Lamps, Boswinga, Drogs, Mikel, Ashley Cole.

The Towers are gone it's now the great Wembley Arch

But the famous Cup lives on.

Will it be sweet success for the Toffee-Blues

Or final Flying joy for the Dutchman and his Blues?

It's the Cup!

It's the FA Cup!"

Stuart has already been invited to sing his song on talkSPORT radio, Chelsea TV and Setanta TV.

With performances scheduled for the last ever Eamonn Holmes show on BBC Radio 5, Chelsea TV again and with a rendition being filmed under the Bobby Moore statue at Wembley itself for ITV 1 that will be aired in the build-up to the Final at 1.45pm it truly has been a wonderful, busy, exciting and 'All BLUE' week for Stuart and his music!

STUART and ANDYS ANGELS Race-Series 2009

National Cross Country Championships

Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, London. Saturday 21st Feb 09

Dear Friends and family,

One of my oldest mates, Andy, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his right femur in February 2008 at the age of 41. Since then he has had the primary tumour removed by replacing his right knee with a Titanium one and had six months of Chemotherapy. In November 2008 he had secondary tumours removed from both lungs. Andy is now finishing a course of Radiotherapy to his leg. As yet he has not been declared free from Cancer so will be closely observed over the coming months.

To read more about Andy's fight against cancer, visit his wonderfully brutal, honest and inspiring blog -

http://mackixwindoze.wordpress.com

I have been profoundly impacted by my friends fight, having already lost my uncle Roger at the age of 47 to this horrific disease. So, I have decided to use something that I enjoy doing in order to raise as much money and profile as I can for Andy's chosen charities. So, throughout 2009, I will be running a series of races, varying in distance from 10k (6 miles) to Half-marathon (13 miles). Having done two marathons in the past both my knees and the rest of me will enjoy, and be able to achieve far more mileage, by avoiding a third!

The race series starts THIS Saturday with the National Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, London.

Eamonn Holmes - AGAIN - Listen 'AGAIN'!

Posted on 17/02/2009 - Taken From www.bbc.co.uk/five/live

Stuart was once again a guest on BBC Radio 5 Live's Eamonn Holmes Show. Following the shock departure of Chelsea manager Phil Scolari, Eamonn's producers contacted Stuart to once again put his satirical writing skills to use following the success of his 'Eamonn jingles', in the penning of a musical look at the happenings down at Stamford Bridge. Having set his new lyrics to the famous tune of 'Volare', Stuart was then invited onto the show to sing his ditty live.

In Eamonn's absence he was welcomed by guest host 'Mock the Week' regular Andy Parsons, where not only was Stuart asked about his thoughts regarding all things Chelsea but his acting and singing career were given the full comedy treatment by Andy.

Due to a technical problem visitors to Stuart's website weren't able to read about his appearance before the live transmission of his interview and performance but you are able to 'listen again' by visiting the BBC's website and clicking on the view again button.

The latest review for 'Benedizioni' is another full of praise, not only for Stuart's vocals, which are described as 'warm and smooth' and likened to Andrea Bocelli and Red Hurley but for the whole sound of the album about which the following is written

"...I enjoyed the sound immensely....rates as highly as those I have heard before in this genre...."  Geoff Howlett

Pendred creates new jingle 'live on air' for Eamonn Holmes and the BBC!

Posted on 12/01/2009 - Taken From www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/

"What a voice!"

These were the first words said to Stuart by Eamonn Holmes after they'd left the studio following his interview on Radio 5.

Stuart had a fantastic time on Saturday morning with Eamonn and his team managing to stun and suprise the entire studio with the unexpected creation of a new 'Holmes jingle' and off the cuff as he sang the famous and fun Italian tarantella 'Funiculi Funicula' with his own re-worked lyrics to close Eamonns' first 5 Live show of 2009.

Sharing the studio with Calum Best, son of footballing legend George, Stuart entertained the studio and listeners nationwide with the story of Vinny Jones's 'worst Best-man speech' ever at Denis Wise's wedding before talking about his debut solo album 'Benedizioni' and closing the show in a style that brought him a rapturous round of applause from everyone present!

Listen out for the new jingle next week on Eamonns show from 9.00am - 11.00am Live on BBC Radio 5 - 909 and 693 AM and MW.

Serbian concert - 25th October 2008

Posted on 28/10/2008

I was amazed at how quickly we (or to be more precise I) forget conflict and war when it has been going on very recently in another country and is then no longer on the front of the news headlines and therefore not 'grabbing' for my attention. My immediate thoughts when I think of Serbia are of two incredibly gifted tennis players Ana Ivanovic and the Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic. This thought struck me as I was being driven from Belgrade airport past buildings in the capital city that had been the target of bombings during the conflict between Serbia and it's Balkan neighbours only twenty years ago - bombed out and dangerously wrecked. I won't even begin to try and explain the complicated political issues that stretch back hundreds of years that lay behind such wars - only comment upon how positive the people subsequently appear to be and determined to move their country forward in it's history. Thankfully, for all concerned in this part of the world, the only conflicts that now go on are those carried out in the fields of the sports and political arenas.

However, there is still very much a battle going on in terms of the health and welfare of people's across the globe.

These trips are both incredibly exciting but also very frustrating, because just as you are beginning to get a small flavour for a city and it's people, let alone an entire nation, you have to jump back on a plane. But I wouldn't miss these opportunities, however short, to be able to try and use what giftings I have by way of my voice to try and help to make a positive difference and effect change for the good in people's lives. Being asked to perform for the work of Hospices of Hope and it's partner hospice organisations across eastern Europe is one of those occasions.

Under the Directorship of Dr Natasa Milicevic BELHospice are trying to provide urgently required palliative care, support and medical help for the people of the city of Belgrade and beyond, when they are diagnosed with terminal illness.

Unlike here in the UK, where we may bemoan our lot with the National Health, in Serbia they have no such service provided to them to moan about! BELHospice is reliant upon generous donation and charity grants in order to continue it's work of home visits and support by the wonderful nurses who work for the charity.

So it was a privilege and with great pleasure that I appeared at the Belgrade Ball at the Hyatt Hotel, Belgrade in order to raise much needed funds for the work of BELHospice. In the presence of Stephen Worsdworth, British Ambassador to Serbia, and other dignitaries and guests a wonderful evening of fundraising was had highlighting the work of BELHospice. I am not party to the amounts raised on the night, and I know that everyone is feeling the financial squeeze, but any monies raised are vital in continuing the work of such vital organisations.

It is in such acts of kindness one to another that our true humanity is shown.

It was an honour to be a part of such an important evening.

Concert at Tonbridge

Posted on 17/10/2008

I had a wonderful evening on Friday in Tonbridge. The concert was held in the beautiful setting of St. Stephen's Church, and drew a really warm and friendly audience to spend an evening of song and the spoken word with the author Michele Guiness and myself. The evening started with a couple of classical songs from myself and then a short q+a with the host of the event Norman Nibloe where I answered questions about my career, faith and new album 'Benedizioni' before I sang again and then had the privilege of listening to the very funny, witty and pithy observations of Michele Guiness talking from two of her books 'Chosen' and 'The Heavenly Party' - both of which I would heartily recommend to you. I then rounded the evening off with a couple of songs from the album and a performance of the beautiful arrangement by Albert Malotte of The Lords Prayer.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to stay behind and meet some of the audience who had taken the time to stay in oredr to speak to me and pass on some lovely compliments about the evening. Thank you to you all for your support and encouragement and I look forward to meeting you all again the next time I am in Tonbridge for a concert. Hopefully it won't be too long.

Romania for Hospices of Hope

Posted on 22/09/2008

This was quite an incredible three days. Challenging, tiring, sad, but also incredibly inspiring, full of joy and ultimately uplifting! I travelled (horribly early!) from the very new and impressive Heathrow T5 with Graham Perrolls, the Founder and Director of Hospices of Hope and it's patron Lady Georgina Norfolk, Duchess of Norfolk.

The purpose of the trip was multi-faceted. To go and visit and encourage the staff and patients of the Hospice in Brasov and to hold two concerts to highlight and continue the work in Brasov but also to begin a new work in Bucharest the capitol city. The concert in Brasov was held in a beautiful intimate setting in the town and was attended by both supporters of the charity and new-comers to the vital work of the hospice in Brasov. The second concert took place in the beautiful Museum of Geology and was hosted by the British Ambassador, Robin Barnett, at which the appeal for the building of a new 4 million euro Hospice to be built in Bucharest was launched.

I've never had the privilege of visiting Romania before, my only connection before being ex-Chelsea players Dan Patrescu and Adrian Mutu and some lovely people I used to live next door to in London. The little bit of the country I was fortunate to see is beautiful and the people incredibly friendly. I immediately warmed to the atmosphere of the nation and it's people as we drove from Bucharest up through the stunning mountains and into Brasov and beyond where we were actually staying in a mountain chalet in the regions ski-ing resort. I can only imagine the breathtaking views that would be there when there was snow on the mountains.

Both of the concerts went very well and it was a great honour to perform and to be made to feel so welcome and appreciated in their country.

But I would have to say that for me the most challenging but also inspiring aspect of the trip was on the Tuesday morning when we went to the Hospice in Brasov to meet the staff and some of the patients. The doctor who was still there six years after travelling to do a six month internship. The mother who had lost her son to cancer working for the hospice and the wonderful gentleman who drove us everywhere for the charity who was awaiting some potentially tragic news regarding the health of his son. The care, love and positive spirit with which these people worked and supported some of the neediest people in Romania was truly humbling.

Then the patients. The dignity with which they held themselves in the most difficult of circumstances; the laughter and amazing joy that sparkled in the eyes of the children despite the pain they were suffering. It's difficult to put into words the effect spending time with people like this can have on you - in a good way. The levelling effect it can have. Life is truly put into perspective.

Singing for this group of people, both patient and carer in the day-room before we headed to visit another exraordinary boy who's life had been saved by the Hospice and then on to the concert in Bucharest was an absolute honour and privilege and is something that I hope I am given the opportunity of doing again in the near future.

Please go to www.hospicesofhope.co.uk to find out more about the amazing work done by this charity and if you can, please help.
